FSPA Student Representatives

FSPA’s board of directors shape the future of scholastic journalism in Florida through defining the mission of the organization, organizing district workshops and the state convention and fostering relationships with other advisers throughout the state.

Student Chair

Maddy Baczek

Oviedo High School, Oviedo

Maddy Baczek is a senior at Oviedo High School. She is the current Vice President of Best Buddies, President of Oviedo’s Quill and Scroll, Editor in Chief of the yearbook, a varsity swimmer, and social media manager. She also works part time as a preschool teacher and part time as a waitress in a retirement home. In her (very little) spare time, she loves to read and write, listen to music, and walk her dog (a golden retriever named Ginny). She is very interested in journalism, and loves being able to tell people’s stories.

Matthew Quesada

Christopher Columbus High School, Miami

Matthew Quesada, a dedicated high school student at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida, excels as a key member of CCNN LIVE. Passionate about journalism, Matthew actively contributes to the school's broadcast team as the team’s equipment manager and head of podcasting. Matthew aspires to make a significant impact in the field of communications beginning as a student rep at FSPA and continuing in college.

Caroline Walsh

Western High School, Davie

Caroline Walsh, a senior at Western High School in Davie, has been the yearbook Editor-in-Chief since her Sophomore year. After joining yearbook her Freshman year she immersed herself in multiple realms of journalism. She started a sports broadcasting program at her school and has extensive photojournalism experience. Caroline developed a love for journalism from a young age and plans to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.

Esra Cattelane

Columbia High School, Lake City

Esra Cattelane is a junior and staffer on the Columbian yearbook at Columbia High School in Lake City. Having come from a background of performing arts schools in West Palm Beach, she boasts experience in film, photography, writing, design, etc. With these skills, Esra wants to capture the most interesting aspects of the county she just moved to. Beyond that, she hopes to ensure that students feel properly represented when it comes to decisions about FSPA. She's excited to work with her fellow representatives to make this year's state convention the most enjoyable yet!

Yasenia Rosario

Robinson High School, Tampa

Yesenia Rosario is on her second year of staff on the Knight Writers for Robinson High School as the News & Features Editor. Her love for journalism began in her middle school’s journalism class. This will be Rosario’s second year attending FSPA states. Her favorite part of being in newspaper is doing profiles on interesting individuals to tell a story as well as taking photos of different sports. She’s excited to be partaking in the creation and development of FSPA this year and working with peers across Florida to bring all journalism students new memories to make this spring.

Alyssandra Zaleski

Pine View School, Osprey

Alyssandra Zaleski writes and edits for Pine View’s high school newspaper, the Torch. From Sarasota, FL, she has worked with the Torch for two years and has been involved in speech and debate, theater, and Pine View’s ocean conservation club, Make A Wave. Hoping to pursue writing in the future, Zaleski is extremely interested in working with new and exciting aspects of journalism.
